I tried Linux Mint Fluxbox CE.. and I am a long time Windows user and developer.
When I decided to find a Windows alternative.. I gave Ubuntu and Linux Mint a try!
The best out of box experience comes from Mint. I'd recommend anyone who wants to try linux out to give Mint a go. Its simple and just brilliant.

I would give DL 3.5 stars. Firstly, using DL installer suggests an "add-to" existing grub boot loader, this does not work. Second, it did not partition my drive (ntfs), and in fact installed all the files amongst windows files. I had to manually repartition from another os, and select install to mbr for the boot loader. Once installed, it runs great, typical of xforce desktop, real snappy. Ive chosen this distro because its Debian-Lenny and will offer a good robust system.
I agree with the author though, this distro has good potential (real good) with some more polish and further development. I compliment Nelson for the work done!

Thanks for the write up and while maybe dated compared to this comment still holds truth.
I really like Dropbox and hope they don't take a turn int "sharing" and "social" realms as before you know it people want to link it to every other possible social-ego-centric app such as facebook, flickers etc…and hello bloatware and increase in pricing.
I wonder if you have reconsidered Windows Live Share as it has mac support now?

I tried installing fedora core 12 on my MacBook 5,1 and when the machine booted i got a folder with a question make on it. Can any of you offer any help and insight?

You can actually backup/synchronise any folder on your disk with Dropbox. Just make a link to the folder you want to backup and put the link in your Dropbox folder.

In Nautilus on linux this would be: Right-click the folder and choose Make link. Then move the link to your Dropbox folder and rename to whatever you like.

In a few days it will be 2010, wow has the game changed in more ways positive than negative IMO. I have a secret to tell you all, it has nothing to do with the software/hardware and everything to do with innovation. The technology is so streamlined and evolving at such a fast pace in another 10 years there will be no such thing as a 5K+ a night studio. Dont ever compensate for lack of experience or legitimate talent with every new plug-in and DAW with fully automated 16+ bus digital i/o boards and G5's with 16G ram and 100TB drives…..you get my point. I know this is gonna sound like blasphemy to any old school studio rats reading this but you will be able to compose, record, mix, master and distribute full length albums without leaving your home computer. Because in reality nobody buys full length albums, and with the techno;ogy available all music bought and made will be able to stay at max bit/sample rate with no CD compression cause its a dead format already. Its all about to change and the music industry is gonna become a living network of artists and thier fans. No more corporate agendas and greed, no more expliotation for mass marketing of acts and no more middle man between you and your favorite bands

Just to keep the information here up to date, IronKey has been shipping with Firefox 3.x since April, 2009 and is currently shipping with 3.5.x.

From the screenshot above of the IronKey Control Panel, it looks like you have not updated your IronKey. We have replaced the Password Manager (shown in your screen shot) with a new tool called the Identity Manager, additionally we have made many performance improvements in the past few months (including compatibility) with new OS versions on Mac, Windows and Linux platforms.

That's why Mozilla should partner up with Microsoft and use Bing as their default search engine in the long run. I'm sure MS is willing to pay in order to fight against Google's search monopoly. The big loser here would be Google for sure.

The fact that Firefox holds 1/3 of the browser market share speaks for itself. As long as Mozilla keeps more than, let's say, 10 – 15% of the global market share, Google won't dare to dump them.

Anyway, I feel sorry for Mozilla as Firefox is the only truly open browser. Chrome is heavily controlled by Google, despite being open source. For example, you can find tons of Firefox addons to download videos from Youtube, whereas Google rejected all the extensions of this kind.

I think Mozilla has quite a while before it has to worry about losing its revenue from Google. Firefox is still very popular among average users who just know how to install a program and download songs from Limewire. These are people who really don't care about which search engine they use, whether it's Google, Yahoo, or Bing. IMO, this is a very important market for Google, and I think it plans to keep its position as default search engine and homepage on Firefox for quite a while.

Next, it doesn't matter about market share. The problem exists in the insecure kernel that Microsoft went with at the inception of their first OS. They did and still do have a system 5 kernel that they could have gone with originally. Time and money was the outcome of the current OSes we all enjoy so much.
60% of Servers run linux. Why are these servers not infected with trojans and worms while running on Linux / other system 5 operating systems?
Your line of thinking should show that running linux as a service is dangerous since DNS, Web, Social Networks, Clusters, Clouds mostly use system 5 technology as opposed to Microsoft products.
Microsoft Office environment. Exchange, Outlook, Sharepoint, SBS Servers.
Any IT man worth his salt hides these behind a Firewall. Smart. And they know why.
Stop thinking that, just because windows is the market share for desktops that is the market share that makes the viruses so prevalent on Windows.
Getting rootkits on major servers and clusters is far more lucrative.

I think that there is no doubt in mind, that Windows 7 is by far the most superior operating system from Microsoft ever.

The speed and agility of the system is impressive compared to Vista and it beats Windows XPs boring GUI every day.
